When it comes to your safety
You do not want to take any short cuts.
Yet, that is the mentality of the world today.
"The easiest route must be the best route."
In the martial arts it is not the destination that equips you to survive,
it is the journey!
A journey of trial and hardship
produces a character that doesn't quit!
"In a battle for your life the person that has learned the technique
is more important then the technique itself."

I know many people say they are the best!
My name is Tracy Benningfield and so you understand right from the beginning I am not the best martial artist I know of. I know many people in the martial arts that are both better and worse than I am.
Over the last 35 years I have trained in a variety of martial arts and have learned a few things. I have found very useful concepts and techniques in every system I have studied.
I must also add however, that I have been taught a variety of techniques that look great in the studio, but would get you killed in the street.
Everything aspect of your training MUST be considered from a street conflict scenario!
To understand self-defense goes beyond learning cool techniques that work in the studio but have little value in a street confrontation.
Beyond learning the how it is more important to learn the "why" of a technique.
This "why" should point in both directions if at all possible.
It should point of course to your opponent and what you are seeking to accomplish, but it should also point back to you. We should question every movement we make.
Questions such as; What are you doing in the midst of the technique that makes you more or less vulnerable to a counter attack? What are the strengths and weaknesses of your body weight and positioning? How can these be improved upon? What is the principle of body alignment so that my skeleton and muscles can join in to protect my body when I attack / defend? What part does my breathing play in this particular technique?
In reality, every technique has strengths and potential weaknesses -if taken advantage of. It is not wrong -nor does it make a technique bad to have a weakness.
It would however, be wrong to NOT UNDERSTAND the weakness and find it exploited in a combative encounter.
In a potentially violent encounter we must move beyond knowledge of a technique to wisdom of the technique we have learned. In this way we understand how useful it may be in reality, or may not be in our given situation.
In our online program of instruction (as well as at our onsite location) we seek to go beyond teaching mere technique to teaching the why behind each technique.
It is important that our students have the freedom to ask questions AND they deserve well thought out meaningful answers that make the technique make sense for them.
We go into body science and explore positioning and mechanics of the muscle/skeletal system. We look into nerve and organ placement to understand where specifically we are striking and what we are striking, not just what we are striking with and how it is done.
In my training I have only had one instructor that ever explored this depth with me and I fell in love with the martial arts as a result.
We want to teach our students, (onsite or online) practical self-defense in a way that will cause them to fall in love with the education they receive, as well as taking care of their physical health as well.
There are of course many health benefits to studying the martial arts. I am often heard saying to my students, "We only get one body, we better take care of it!"
In our program you are going to learn to take care of your health, body, and learn to defend yourself in a comprehensive course of instruction.
You are going to love this!
